Are you part of a group, team or Troop that is doing something amazing for someone else? Are you looking to add a creative element to your project. We at (re)fabulous would like to help you do that!
We have lent our hands and out hearts to great people and projects in the last year and it we love it. This February we helped a gal who is off to South Africa to work with children with AIDS. Together we made 30 cat walking finger puppets. Not enough for every child but something to play with and share.
Are you a Troop
I learned to BELIEVE I could make anything as a Girl Scout! I Dreamed of the day when I would have a sash full of so many Badges they ran around on to my back. Badges – tangible – touchable Proof that I could do something – that I was ABLE. I still have my sash – over 35 years later – that is how valuable the feeling of being capable has been to me.
Looking through the Girl Scout book when I was 10 I saw the Sewing Badge and though that is the first one I will do. It was the first badge I sewed on. It was the start of my “I can do/make that outlook on life”, an outlook that has opened doors and taking me around the world. Working with Girl Scouts is a true joy for me. I have looked at the new book and know there is no Sewing Badge – sad – but we can build one! I have an outline I am happy to share or we can work together to build one. As an experience I have been offering Troops a class that runs two sessions – each about 1.5 hours. In the first session, we learn about the history and workings of the machine and do a little sewing; working with straight lines and fun stitches. In the second class we make something. I have been getting a sense for the girls in the first class and then offering them a choice between a couple of quick projects. I feel like it is valuable for the girls to make something tangible they can be proud of and KEEP as their first project. The cost of this 2 session class is $30 a girl. Everyone walks out with a feel for sewing, and more importantly a sense that they can make things they want. If this sounds like something your troop might like please give me a call at (360) 489-1852. AND please share this with other Troops, I would love to pass on the joys and resourcefulness sewing has given me.
